ebrary

Welcome to ebrary's Global eBook Survey Wiki!

In Spring 2007, ebrary conducted an informal survey to better understand the digital content needs of the library community. We received such an overwhelming response from librarians and informational professionals throughout the world that we decided to share the results and create a wiki to facilitate discussion around them.

We invite you to create pages on topics of interest and comment on postings left by your colleagues. Your participation will help us learn more about the library community and understand how we can better address your needs.

ebrary intends to run select wiki posts in our newsletter. If you would like your post to be attributed to you, please include your name, title, institution name, and contact information (if desired) on your post.

We also encourage you to write and publish your own papers based on the survey findings, and you are welcome to refer to the survey results in any materials.

I think that the original basis for the wiki is wonderful but the execution just wasn't where it needed to be.  I think that as technology continues to intertwine itself with our society, e books as well as many other formats of electronic media will become more valuable to librarians everywhere.

At this point, it seems that the majority of librarians use these formats, which is surprising when you look at the many great resources out there such as Project Gutenburg which offers thousands of copyright free literatures in the electronic format.  I recently started selling real estate books through my website and was contemplating the idea of converting some of those over to e books ofr download, unfortunately it just entails so much work, I don't have the resources available to me at this point.
